How to Care for your Houseplants in the Winter

Hey, plant lovers! I know how stressful it can be to keep your houseplants alive during winter, so I am here to help you out. You are probably already aware that they need special care when the cold days approach, and even if you keep them indoors, they can still be affected by the severe conditions of this season. Once the days become shorter, your plants will not be able to get much light as they are used to, which will additionally affect their moisture and temperature levels.

Luckily, there are methods that you can incorporate into your plant care routine and keep your beloved plants alive during the whole winter. Here are some tips to help you properly care for your house greenery.

Reduce the watering

You may have different kinds of houseplants, meaning that all of them require different amounts of water. However, they will need less water when you take them inside, and the temperatures outside become lower. You may believe that since the air gets drier, you will need to water them regularly, but during winter, plants do not grow very much, meaning they do not need more moisture in their soil.

Therefore, you will have to cut back on watering, otherwise, you might damage them. Many people believe that reduced watering refers only to winter plants, but the truth is it refers to most of them.

You can always check the moisture level by sticking your finger into the soil and checking whether it is dry. If you need more clarification about the moisture levels, you can rely on plant products, such as the Plant Moisture Meter. A moisture meter will keep you in the loop, and your plant will not suffer.

Control the temperature to which your plant is exposed

Houseplants cannot withstand extreme temperatures, meaning you should not expose them to very cold or very hot surroundings. Therefore, ensure you keep your green beauties away from drafts and heating sources, such as radiators and fireplaces.

Sometimes, it might be difficult to find a safe place for your plant, especially if it is placed in a small room with a lot of things inside. You may find it convenient to set your houseplant in an Open Weave Dome Hanging Basket, one of the best plant products that will ensure it has room to breathe and retain normal temperature. Plus, it will keep it out of your way, and you will not worry about hurting your plant.

Keep your plants clean

Even when your plants are inside, they are still prone to dust and bugs. For them to survive, they need a clean environment. Make sure that you always clean their leaves and keep them neat. If your plants attract bugs, you can always rely on Sticky Traps, which are safe, non-toxic, and do not contain any odor!

As you can see, you do not have to go through a lot of trouble to help your houseplants survive the winter. Just make sure you follow these simple guidelines, and you will be on the right track.
